NPMS External Pipeline Attribute Data Dictionary

This data dictionary describes the pipeline attribute data that is available to external stakeholders from the National Pipeline Mapping System (NPMS). The NPMS pipeline data only includes gas transmission pipelines and hazardous liquid pipelines subject to Part 195 regulations. Some of these attributes are submitted to PHMSA by the pipeline operator. Some are incorporated into the NPMS pipeline data by PHMSA.
NPMS pipeline data always reflects the pipeline segment's operational status during the reporting year. View the REVIS_DATE (REVISION DATE) to determine the reporting year on each pipeline segment. A revision date during 2023 reflects reporting year 2022 (operations as of 12/31/2022).

PHMSA has approval to start collecting additional pipeline attributes, as well as LNG and Breakout Tank related data layers and attributes in the NPMS. PHMSA will update this data dictionary once we collect and make this data available to external stakeholders.
